5 Things I Wish I knew in My First Year of Teaching.
These are what I wished to have in my teaching career toolbox as a new teacher.
- Be You and Only You!
Even though this might seem a cliché or catch phrase for some of us, in teaching world: you will get tons of what to do, what to be like around students, and so on. However, being you means that you take what works personally for you than what works for Suzy or Sam. In other words, when anyone is a newbie to anything; we often find ourselves being vulnerable for outside noises.
Essentially, teaching is an art, and every artist is unique and creative in her/his way as simple as that. Remember to be you because only you know yourself and understand what works best with your personality.
2. Build Working Relationship with Parents.
Teaching is a demanding job itself and I know how we’re always busy with keeping up with the pace of everything. Communicating with parents or guardians will make you your job much smoother and provide a working relationship with both families and students. This shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes of your time.
I would recommend starting as once a week thing and doing this as two to three things that you saw Johnny or Sara doing today in class. Starting this as “good news” call or email, because…
